Never pay a professional directly. Not in cash, not by transfer, not to an
account number someone reads out to you at your door. Every legitimate EBUTECH payment goes
to EBUTECH — through the secure link or the account number that we send you by SMS,
email, or in the app.
How a real EBUTECH payment works
- The job is finished. Your professional marks it complete and enters the amount you agreed together.
- We send you the payment details. They arrive from EBUTECH — by SMS, by email, and in the app. Not verbally, and not from the professional's own phone.
- You pay EBUTECH. Either through a secure Paystack link or to a dedicated EBUTECH account number generated for that job.
- You get a receipt. Payment is confirmed automatically and your job is marked paid. Then you're invited to rate your professional.
The professional is paid by EBUTECH afterwards. They have no reason to ask you for money —
and no authority to.
Warning signs — stop if you see any of these
- Anyone asks you to pay in cash.
- Anyone gives you an account number verbally, on paper, or by WhatsApp.
- The account name is a person's name rather than EBUTECH.
- You are asked to pay before the job is finished, or to pay a "deposit" on site.
- You are told the EBUTECH link "isn't working, just send it here instead."
- You are pressured to pay quickly, or told not to mention it to EBUTECH.
- Someone asks for your arrival code over the phone, before arriving.
- Someone asks for your card PIN, your bank password, or a code sent to your phone by your bank. EBUTECH will never ask for these.
What to do if it happens
- Do not pay. You are not being difficult — you are following our rules.
- Do not confront anyone. Your safety comes first.
- Report it to us immediately using the details below, with your booking code.
- Flag it in your rating. When you rate the job there is an option to report that you were asked to pay directly. This goes straight to our team.
We investigate every report. A professional found to have asked for direct payment is
removed from EBUTECH work and may be reported to the authorities.
What we will never do
- Ask for your card PIN, internet banking password, or one-time bank code
- Ask you to pay into a personal or individual account
- Ask for payment before a job is completed and the amount agreed
- Ask for your arrival code by phone, SMS, or WhatsApp
- Send you payment details from a professional's personal number
Your arrival code protects you too
When your professional arrives, we send you a one-time six-digit code. They must get it
from you and enter it before the job is recorded as started. It confirms the person at your
door is genuinely the professional we dispatched.
Give it only to the person physically in front of you. Never read it out
over the phone to someone who says they're "on the way" — a real professional asks for it
at your door, not before.
If you already paid someone directly
Tell us straight away. We will investigate and act against the professional involved. But
be aware: a payment made outside our system leaves no record with us, so we cannot refund
or recover it, and the job may still be unpaid as far as our records show. This is exactly
why the rule exists.
